The Red Bull Music Academy began in 1998 as a means to foster inspiration and creativity in the world of music. Taking place in a different location each year, the Academy features a specially selected group of musical mavericks – producers, vocalists, DJs, and other talents – to spend two weeks in a one-of-a-kind workshop. At the Academy, participants are given the opportunity to hear lectures from top names in the music industry, as well as work together on tracks, and even perform in local clubs and music halls.

Prior to the big event, various smaller workshops are held all over the world for anyone interested in applying to the Academy. At these events, potential applicants are able to learn more about the Red Bull Music Academy itself, watch a presentation about previous years’ events, and go over the actual application process. Each of the preliminary workshops also display a unique and specially designed sign featuring the iconic Red Bull logo.

To be exhibited at the workshop in Virginia Beach, Virginia, local advertising agency, The Ludlow Group, teamed up with ALPOLIC for their take on the infamous Red Bull insignia. Through layering panels of ACM, a desired industrial 3D appearance was achieved as the basis for the design. Additionally, thanks to ALPOLIC’s wide range of colors, several grays were used as a means to contrast with the bright yellow and red at the center of the logo.

The ALPOLIC panels were routed on a Cosmec CNC Router, bonded together using 3M VHB tape, and then hung using ibolts and an aluminum tubing frame. According to the fabricators at Vanmark, ALPOLIC materials were used due to the product’s ease of fabrication, inherent lightweightness, and rigidity.
